Jury 2012
The BOB jury is made up of distinguished experts from the worlds of science, industry and finance and will be responsible for selecting the three best business plans as well as the winner of the LISAvr Medtech award in phase 2. The jury also provides extensive feedback to all presenting teams.
All jury members have signed a strict confidentiality agreement.
Dr. Klaus Binder, Managing Director and Founder, Binder Associates
Dr. Klaus Binder combines more than 20 years of experience in R&D and market orientated Business Development within the international Life Science and Health Care Industry. Since 2000 Dr. Binder consults pharmaceutical- and biotechnology companies with respect to product- and corporate development. He is founder and managing director of BINDER ASSOCIATES GmbH. The company is focusing on pharmaceutical product development and supports CMOs (contract manufacturing organizations) and CROs (contract research organizations) in marketing and corporate development.
Before starting his own firm, Dr. Binder was responsible for different functions in international Business Development and Strategic Marketing of Boehringer Ingelheim. In his last position he was Head of Corporate Business Development & Marketing of the Biopharmaceutical Contract Manufacturing Business of Boehringer Ingelheim GmbH.
Before that Dr. Binder did spend 6 years in pharmaceutical R&D. He was heading the Coagulation Research of Boehringer Ingelheim KG. He was responsible for research and preclinical development of several pharmaceutical development projects.
Dr. Binder is also an appointed board member of selected companies in Europe and the USA.
Arnold Fehér, Founder and Managing Partner, Convincive Consulting
Dr. Arnold Fehér is founder and managing partner at Convincive Consulting. Convincive provides strategy and business development advisory for biotech / life sciences companies, scientists and innovators with ideas to be commercialized, R&D or TTO institutions (universities, centers of excellence, hospitals, bioincubators, science parks etc.), sector capital investors, authorities and policy makers in Hungary and Europe.
Between 2001 and 2004, Dr. Fehér was director of business development at Solvo Biotechnology, a Hungarian biotech company commercialising products and technologies for the pharmaceutical industry world wide. Before, Dr. Fehér gained three years experience in strategy consulting at The Boston Consulting Group’s Budapest office, developing strategies for pharmaceuticals and other technology and services sectors world wide. Previously, Dr. Fehér spent three years in different sales positions at Abbott Diagnostics and two Hungarian healthcare SMEs.
Dr. Fehér is an M.D. and also holds an M.Sc. in Business Administration specialized in finance and entrepreneurship. Dr. Fehér leads the Strategic Committee of the Hungarian Biotechnology Association since 2008.
Regina Hodits, Venture Partner, Atlas Venture
Regina joined Wellington Partners in spring 2010 as a part-time advisor and stepped up to General Partner in January 2011.
Until January 2010, Regina led the life sciences efforts of Atlas Venture in Europe, a leading transatlantic venture capital firm. As a Partner at Atlas Venture, she led numerous financing rounds and was the founding investor in Bicycle Therapeutics, Fibrex, F-star and Jenavalve. In addition, she served on the Board of Egalet, Lumavita, Novamed and Protaffin and is an external director at GlaxoSmithKline's (GSK) Respiratory CEDD. Regina was also on the Board of U3 Pharma, which was acquired by Daiichi Sankyo Co.,Ltd. in 2008.

She began her career in venture capital in 2000 with Apax Partners in Munich, where she was responsible for life science investments and was closely involved with Apax’ investments in Genmab, Silence Therapeutics, Astex and Wilex. Prior to Apax Partners, she was an industry specialist for pharmaceutical and biotech companies at McKinsey & Company focusing on building new businesses, spin-offs and mergers in the sector.
Regina holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry, a Master of Science from the Technical University in Vienna, Austria and she completed her post-doctoral research at the MRC in Cambridge, UK. She has been the recipient of a number of scientific awards and research grants, and has published in several journals, including Nature Biotech and JBC.
Marion Jung, General Management, ChromoTek
Marion Jung became General Manager at ChromoTek in Autumn 2011.
Before that she was Associate and than Principal at Earlybird from 1999 to 2002).
She has more than 11 years experience as investor with focus on health technologies and cleantech and has been involved in building Earlybird´s portfolio in the healthcare markets in Europe and the US. With her broad international network, Marion works closely with Earlybird´s portfolio companies to help them achieve their value-creating milestones as well as being involved from Earlybird's initial investment through subsequent financing rounds and exit. These companies include Amaxa AG (Cologne) which was sold to Lonza Group Ltd. (SWX: LONN), Wilex which listed on Prime Standard Frankfurt Exchange (WL6). and Dianoema S.p.A., which listed on the Borsa Italiana (Milan: NOE.MI). Marion currently represents Earlybird’s interests at medical device companies Miracor Medical and EBS Technologies.
Marion joined Earlybird after her postdoctoral training in molecular biology at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich. She earned her PhD under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Svante Pääbo. She gained further research expertise in programs at Arizona State University in Phoenix, Arizona and at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, Massachusetts.
Marion received a Dipl.- Biol. (MS equivalent) from the Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich. She is the author of several articles that have been published in peer reviewed journals.
Jürgen Kosch, CEO MIG Fonds
Mr. Jürgen Kosch has been an active entrepreneur in the IT business for more than 20 years. He founded several companies and established them on the international market. Mr. Kosch has in depth experience as a business angel and business-coach. Starting from 2003, he has been a consultant to Venture Capital funds. As member of the MIG executive board, Jürgen Kosch is responsible for the technological assessment and development of the investment pipeline.
MIG Verwaltungs AG (MIG) provides management services to the MIG funds, which are public Venture Capital funds. The MIG funds have a total volume of more than 400 million Euros and provide Venture Capital to young, non-listed companies located in German-speaking Europe. The investment strategy and assistance to the portfolio companies is greatly determined by the entrepreneurial experience of the MIG team.
Markus Müller, Vienna University School of Medicine
Markus Müller, MD, is specialized in internal medicine and clinical pharmacology and currently serves as tenured, full Professor and Head of the Department of Clinical Pharmacology of the Vienna Medical University at the Vienna General Hospital (AKH), a 2200 bed tertiary care hospital. The Department is specialized on clinical research in a wide variety of therapeutic areas.
Prof Müller also serves as a European Expert for the European Medicines Agency (EMEA), and is a reviewer for several biomedical and pharmaceutical journals and scientific societies. He has published over 150 original articles in the field of clinical pharmacology, holds two patents and has received several awards, including the Tanabe Award of the American College of Clinial Pharmacology (ACCP) in acknowledgment of innovations in clinical pharmacology trials and the Billroth Award of the Austrian Board of Physicians.
Eva Prieschl-Grassauer, Chief Scientific Officer, Marinomed
Dr. Prieschl-Grassauer has more than ten years of experience working in pharmaceutical drug development. She is founder and owner of Marinomed, a biopharmaceutical company discovering and developing innovative naturally-derived immunological and antiviral treatments. Before Marinomed, she was head of the allergy program at Novartis in Vienna. In this position she also discovered the mechanism of action of FTY720 (Fingolimod), Novartis´ novel immunomodulatory drug against multiple sclerosis. Following that, she supervised the clinical development of an innovative cancer therapy drug that was in clinical phase III at that time. Dr. Prieschl-Grassauer has published more than 30 articles in high ranking peer-reviewed journals in the field of immunology, molecular biology and medicinal chemistry.

Joachim Rothe, General Partner at Life Science Partners
Joachim (JR) Rothe PhD is a general partner of the venture capital company Life Science Partners, and serves or has served on the supervisory boards of Bioxell (I), Affectis (D), U3 Pharma (D), IDEA (D), Cellerix (E) and Okairos (CH).
Before joining LSP as a general partner in early 2002, he was a principal at MPM Capital in Cambridge, MA, USA, and Managing Director of MPM Capital GmbH based in Munich. In that capacity, Joachim served on the supervisory boards of Novirio Pharmaceuticals (now: Nasdaq: IDIX), OMRIX Biopharmaceuticals (now: Nasdaq: OMRI) and t. Breeders (now: Nasdaq: VIAC), and he was significantly involved in the Biovitrum (SSE: BVT) and Cellular Genomics transactions.
Previously, Joachim worked at McKinsey & Company where he was an engagement manager on assignments in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. He also spent time at Hoffmann-La Roche in Basel, Switzerland, where he worked in both the preclinical development department as well as in central research.
Joachim, a German native, has a Masters degree in biochemistry from the Free University in Berlin, and a PhD degree from the University of Freiburg. He has authored numerous articles in leading scientific publications, including Nature.
Dr. Thomas von Rüden, Chief Executive Officer, Direvo Industrial Biotechnology GmbH
Dr. Thomas von Rüden joined DIREVO in April 2006. Prior to becoming the Managing Director at DIREVO Industrial Biotechnology GmbH in March 2009, he was the Chairman of DIREVO’S Advisory Board and worked as President and Chief Executive Officer at DIREVO Biotech AG until the company was successfully acquired by Bayer Schering in September 2008. Beforehand, he spent six years as the CSO and Executive VP of Business Development with MorphoSys AG in Munich. After holding academic positions at the European Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Heidelberg, and the Institute of Molecular Pathology, Vienna, he joined Boehringer Ingelheim in Vienna, where he was appointed Director of Molecular Biology responsible for drug discovery in oncology.
Thomas studied at the Universities of Frankfurt, Princeton, and finally Mainz, where he gained a Ph.D. He also holds several advisory board positions in biotechnology companies and public research organizations.
Angelika Weinländer-Mölders, CEO Caesar & Loretz GmbH
Dr. Angelika Weinländer-Mölders has more than 15 years of experience in the medical equipment business with a generalist background and a sales and marketing focus.
Since August 2009 she is responsible as chief executive officer for Caesar & Loretz, a company in the pharmaceutical industry.
Before Dr. Angelika Weinländer-Mölders was working for small, mid-sized and large companies in several positions as CEO, Business Unit Director or Commercial Director with a focus of establishing or re-structuring of internationally active business units.
Dr. Angelika Weinländer-Mölders holds a Ph.D in Chemistry from the university Friderciana Karlsruhe.
